My Top 5 Decentralized Business Tools

At the heart of a remote business is using the tools that are available all over to make staying at home and running a business possible. In my past posts, I have referenced many of them and now -- finally -- I am going to share my top 5 tools and resources for running a decrentralized web development shop.

1. BaseCamp (www.basecamphq.com) - This is a web based Project Mangement tool that makes it easy to manage a team of developers and designers. You can share tasks, files and deadlines here. The tool is built on the premise that you should give users the base tool set and let them devise means for maximizing it's capabilities. We have a constantly evolving, but very cool, method of managing work in Basecamp. I will share that later. Basecamp ranges in cost from FREE to $150 a month or so.

2. Jing (www.jingproject.com) - Jing is the best things since to happen in years in the field of web project managment. It allows you to screen capture an area of your desktop, annotate and then upload and share in a matter of seconds. And it's free. It also works with video recording.

3. Timepost - This is a MAC tool for tracking time and posting it to basecamp by project. The PC counterpart (that i recommend) is called Avalanche. It costs a few dollars to register, but considering the value of accurate time tracking to your business, it is worth 10 times it's sticker price.

4. oDesk.com - oDesk is where I do my offshore staffing. Not only does it have a huge pool of talent that can be easily searchable.

5. Freshbooks -
